PictBridge Technology

and Digital Cameras

What is PictBridge?

This is a new standard created for direct printing from your digital camera

to your printer regardless of the make of the camera or the printer.

This technology allows you to connect your digital camera directly to your printer without a computer, just plug your camera into the printer using a USB cable and you are ready to print!

The good news for all digital cameras users about PictBridge is a large numbers of manufacturers have already announced their commitment to the standard.

Canon, Nikon, Kodak, FujiFilm, Sony, Olympus, HP, Panasonic, Ricoh, Pentax and Epson are among these companies.

What are the direct-printing functions and features of PictBridge?

The functions available will depend on the individual specification of your digital camera. PictBridge products are capable of performing the basic required functions such as:

  • Connecting your camera to a PictBridge printer with a USB cable regardless of the brand of the camera and the printer without having to install any software.

  • Print immediately any image displayed on the digital camera LCD screen.

  • If an error occurs during printing, an error message will appear on the LCD screen of the digital camera.

  • Functions such as printing multiple images, print size, number of copies and many others are available if supported by the camera connected.

PictBridge lets a digital camera use the default settings of the connected

printer if the digital camera doesn’t provide print settings such as media size, media type, or print quality.

If a printer needs settings like media type, size, and print quality that the digital camera doesn’t support, the printer uses its own default print settings.

This is a great technology that will make your digital camera even more enjoyable!

When selecting your digital camera, even if it's not a must, you should make sure the brand and model you are selecting are PictBridge compliant.

An easy way to find out if the digital

camera you are planning to buy is PictBridge compliant is to look for the PictBridge Logo on the box, instruction manual or features and specifications section of the camera.

Very soon, you won't even have to worried about it because I believe that all digital cameras and printers will be PictBridge compliant.
