Canon S80 Review
Canon S80 ReviewThe Canon S80 is an update of last year's Canon S70 model with more features in a smaller package. Arguably one of the larger conmpact Canon digital camera, the S80 is a typical Canon camera.

A great 2.5-inch LCD, 21 shooting modes and a very slick EOS-style Multi Control dial in a body Canon claims is eight percent smaller than its predecessor, share button to allow easy one-touch photo printing and downloading, the Canon S80 is a very well built robust mid-size digital camera. I really like the gloss black S80, looks and feel like quality camera (and sure is!). The Canon S80 is full of features that will keep happy beginner or intermediate users. Exposure control in auto, Program AE, aperture and shutter priority as well as manual are some of the features available. The exposure presets for those who don't want to be challenged by technology, include night scenes, fireworks, beach and snow situation. These exposure presets are always very handy. The powerful My Colors mode lets you change the colors in a scene in a still image or movie clip to make reds, greens and blues more vivid and intense. It will also transform skin tones from dark to light and vice versa. One great little feature of the Canon S80 is the intervalometer function that will fire off 2-100 shots at intervals of anywhere between one minute to one hour.
Canon S80 Review - Pros- Efficient user interface (easy to use)
- Saves customs setting, handy feature
- Wider angle than most zooms (great for people in real estate)
- Good design for small or large hands
- Great picture quality
Canon S80 Review - Cons- Audio noise in movie mode
- A bit large for a compact digital camera
- Also a little heavy
The S80's power-up time: from power on to first shot takes just two seconds which is impressive and subsequents shot can be made at about a second apart. The S80 caters to underwater photographers with a special white-balance setting and an optional waterproof housing, another good point for the S80. Canon S80 Review - Final WordA solidly built digital camera that will work for even inexperienced photographers but also with the shooting options for more advanced image enthusiasts. Some users have complained about the battery life. Easy to get around this problem, you can get third party batteries that are 1200 mAh (almost twice the capacity of the battery suppliedby Canon, you can get these batteries for about $20. Don't worry about third party batteries, in my experience they are the same and I never had any problems (how different a battery can be!) Really good digital camera. Canon S80 Review - MemoryMost digital cameras come with very low capacity memory cards and the Canon S80 is no exception. A 32 MB SD memory card is included in the box when you purchase the S80. There is no fixed rule for the number of photos you can put on one card because different image file types, different amounts of compression, and image content all affect the size of each file. As a general rule, I'd recommend at least 512 megabytes or two 256 megabyte cards if you're buying a 3-5 megapixel compact digital camera. If you want to shoot lots of high resolution TIFF or RAW files, then you'll probably want to look at 512 megabyte and 1 gigabyte cards. It's also a good idea to not save all of your photos on one card. Click here for more information on memory. The type of memory for the Canon Powershot S80 is SD Memory Card, MultiMediaCard.
