Kodak DX7630 Review

Kodak DX7630 Review

One of the more affordable 6-megapixel models
on the market I have seen. As usual, Kodak produces another very user friendly digital camera. However if you are looking for loads of high-end features, the Kodak DX7630 might not be the best choice.

I found the looks a bit chunky, but the Kodak EasyShare DX7630 fits well in your hand, which helps you take pictures easily. The camera’s large 2 inch LCD is a great feature which works well in daylight which is not the case for all digital cameras.

The DX7630 has almost too many buttons and controls from which to choose. The power switch is situated on the mode selection dial, and a lock prevents you from turning it on accidentally. You use a tiny, stubby joystick in the center of the dial to navigate menus and browse your shots--it works, but it's a little hard on the thumb.

Kodak DX7630 Review - Pros

  • Inexpensive for a 6 megapixel digital camera
  • Ergonomic
  • Li-Ion battery and charger supplied
  • 2 inch LCD

Kodak DX7630 Review - Cons

  • Tiny viewfinder
  • Zoom control hard to control
  • Doesn’t support PictBridge standard
  • No RAW support

Kodak DX7630 Review – Final Word

The DX7630 is comfortable, versatile and easy to use. Image quality is good but not outstanding. You can combine this digital camera with the optional Kodak printer dock which is easy to use with the share button located on the back of the camera.

If a high resolution digital camera is important for you but don’t want to spend too much money, the Kodak DX7630 is probably your cheapest option.

Kodak DX7630 Review – Memory

Most digital cameras come with very low capacity memory cards and the Kodak DX7630 is no exception. A 32 SD/MMC memory card is included in the box when you purchase the DX7630.

There is no fixed rule for the number of photos you can put on one card because different image file types, different amounts of compression, and image content all affect the size of each file.

As a general rule, I'd recommend at least 256 megabytes or two 128 megabyte cards if you're buying a 3-5 megapixel compact digital camera. But 512 megabytes would be a good size for 6 megapixel digital camera such as the Kodak DX7630.

If you want to shoot lots of high resolution TIFF or RAW files, then you'll probably want to look at 512 megabyte and 1 gigabyte cards. It's also a good idea to not save all of your photos on one card.

With the 32 MB memory card included with the DX7630, you will take approximately 25 pictures before having to empty the memory card! Budgeting for a memory card is a must.

Another good reason to get several memory cards is there's always the possibility that cards can get corrupted, lost, or stolen. Using more than one and switching during a shoot protects your valuable photographic data.

The type of memory card for Kodak DX7630 is SD or MMC.
